Stand with the Bonobo Peace Forest

Olive grooming Opale

At a time when the world feels increasingly divided, bonobos offer a rare and powerful model of cooperation, empathy, and peace. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, our partners are bringing that spirit to life on the ground, protecting one of Earth’s last great rainforests while improving life in their own villages. Yet they are doing this vital work with extremely limited resources, even as pressures from logging, mining, poaching, and wildlife trafficking grow stronger by the day.

With your support, BCI and our Congolese partners can continue to safeguard bonobo habitat, expand the Bonobo Peace Forest, and strengthen community-led solutions that benefit both people and wildlife. Your gift directly fuels local leadership—helping families access healthcare, education, and sustainable livelihoods while keeping millions of acres of rainforest standing.

We are starting the new year with refreshed strategic planning with all of our local partners. Here are just a few of the top priorities where your support will make a difference:

Local partner sharing his agricultural skills

  • Supplying community health clinics with clean water and life-saving medications.

  • Supporting locally-driven agroforestry programs to enhance food security and diminish deforestation.

  • Boosting innovative projects for fish farming and animal husbandry, reducing bushmeat hunting.

  • Reinforcing bonobo patrol teams with training and supplies.

Local Action. Global impact.

The Bonobo Peace Forest began as a bold idea: that by trusting and empowering local communities, we could protect an entire landscape and help an extraordinary great ape avoid extinction. That idea is working—but only if we stand with the people who are making it real, day after day, in the forests of the Congo Basin.

A donation today — whether $25, $100, or $1,000 — becomes boots on the ground, training for community rangers, and support for schools and clinics that make conservation possible for the long term.

Please make your most generous gift today to support our local partners in the Bonobo Peace Forest. Together, we can ensure that bonobos, their rainforest home, and the communities who protect them continue to flourish—in peace—for generations to come.

Thank you so much for your support!
